Barry Mazur is an affable Renaissance man whose celebrated mind moves seamlessly from the creation of new theorems across areas of algebraic geometry to crafting lines of poetry in the Cambridge home he shares with his longtime wife. 

Gretchen Mazur, a noted author, says of her husband: ‘Mathematicians are the sweetest bunch of professional people. And I think he's the sweetest of them all.’
